Derby has had a history of having to come from behind in games this season, but tonight would not be that way. A 6′ goal gave the Panthers the quick lead and they had plenty of opportunity to add to that. Creating chances was not the issue, the team just had trouble finding the net. South would tie the game midway through the first when they snuck a player down the middle on a through ball. The Panthers would be awarded a PK in the first but it would hit the crossbar. A little lull in Derby’s energy and pace would be replaced with some sharp movement from the team and in the closing minute of the first half score twice more.
South came into the second half with a changed attitude and became the immediate aggressor. A small mistake from Derby would give South a PK that was converted and all of a sudden South was back in the match. Derby would gain ground again as the half played out. The only shot South recorded in the second half was the PK as Derby cleaned it up in the back and a late strike would give Derby a cushion that was too great for South to overcome.
After losing four in a row Derby has come back with three consecutive wins to improve their record to 7-5. Derby will look to continue that streak Thursday when they head to Goddard.
