Conditions were miserable for the boys this evening with temperatures just in the upper 30’s and a pouring rain that started before warmups and continued through the entire match. Non of that seemed to matter for the Panthers who dominated possession during the match, evening earning five corner kicks in the first eight minutes. Despite that, Derby had only one solid look at goal but a fantastic save from the Southeast keeper kept Caleb Day from opening the scoring.
The only goal of the night came off an indirect free kick from inside the box in the 60’. The tap from Scott Simmons with the finish from Caden Miller gave Derby the only goal they needed to advance to the next round of regionals.
Derby (8-6-2) will play the regional championship either Friday or Saturday against a yet to be determined opponent.
