Coleson Syring would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Friday, driving in four on two hits to lead Derby past Maize South 14-1 on Friday. Syring drove in runs on a double in the first and a home run in the second.
Derby got things moving in the first inning. Luke Westerman drove in two when he homered to deep left field.
Grant Ash was the winning pitcher for Derby. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out five. Jace Jenkins threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Keegan McFarland took the loss for Maize South. McFarland lasted one inning, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out one and walking one.
Derby socked two home runs on the day. Westerman went yard in the first inning. Syring had a dinger in the second inning.
Derby collected nine hits. Tanner Knox and Syring each had multiple hits for Derby.
