Derby snatched the lead late in the game in a 5-4 victory over Newton on Tuesday. The game was tied at four with Derby batting in the bottom of the fifth when Karson Klima singled on a 2-2 count with 2 outs, scoring the go ahead run.
Derby earned the victory despite allowing Newton to score three runs in the second inning. Newton’s big inning was driven by a home run by Boston and an error.
Derby notched three runs in the third inning. Derby’s big bats in the inning were led by a single by Klima, a sac fly by Reid Liston, and a home run by Kade Snodgrass.
Carson Olmstead got the start for Derby. The righthander allowed four hits and four runs over four and a third innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Derby smacked one home run on the day. Snodgrass went deep in the third inning.
Klima led Derby with two hits in three at bats.
