Derby Panthers grabbed an early lead on its way to an 11-3 victory over Manhattan on Tuesday. The Panthers scored on a home run by Bryce Atkinson in the first inning, a single by Gavin Dupler in the second inning, a single by Hunter Igo in the second inning, and a single by Grant Adler in the second inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Manhattan tied things up at three. Higgins drove in two when he singled.
Derby pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Dupler singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Igo singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Adler singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Tyler Farmer earned the victory for the Panthers. He lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out four.
Derby collected nine hits on the day. Atkinson and Kade Snodgrass both had multiple hits for the Panthers. Atkinson led Derby Panthers Varsity with three hits in three at bats.
