Wichita-Northwest vs Derby High School

Derby played host this evening to the always tough Wichita Northwest. The first half was as close a game as it could have been. Only forty-five seconds separated the teams in time of possession. Both teams were finding the gaps as well but unable to convert for most of the half. The scoring drought was broke in the 26′ with a Brianna Moore goal but was answered with a smash off the near post just thirty seconds later by Northwest to even the score.
The second half was anything but even as Northwest held a majority of the possession but Derby seemed a little more crafty. Brianna Moore got her second of four goals in the 44′ and Madalyn Liebst added a beautiful bending goal over the keeper in the 47′. Brianna Moore struck again in the 49′ and in a heartbeat it was 4-1. Northwest did not give up though and kept attacking. They cut the lead in half in the 55′ and it added life to the team. In the 64′ they would add another and the pressure on Derby increased. But there was Brianna Moore in the 66′ to make it 5-3. Lexi Winkle in goal had four of her five saves in the second half and a couple critical ones late to help preserve the Derby lead.
The Panthers improve to 5-2 on the season and host Andover Central tomorrow night.
